MedMalFirm.com Attorneys Awarded $761,000 for Hospital Bedsore Case

In February 2015 a Bexar County jury awarded MedMalFirm.com (now MedMalFirm.com) partners Charles Brown and Kristina Frankel with a $761,000 verdict in a hospital bedsore case for injuries sustained to the late Elodia Alegria.

Bedsore Case Information

Ms. Elodia Alegria was admitted to Southwest General Hospital in San Antonio in November 2012.  After failing to properly monitor and treat a pressure ulcer, or bedsore, that developed while under their care, the late Ms. Alegria developed an infection that manifested as a result of the pressure ulcer.  Unable to recover from the infection and bedsore, Ms. Alegria passed away at age 85 on November 26, 2012.

The Bexar County jury awarded the family of Ms. Alegria with a $761,000 for the defendant’s breach in the standard of care which ultimately led to the victim’s demise.  While this in no way makes up for the loss of Ms. Alegria, we are happy that her family was able to find some retribution amidst this heartbreaking situation.

Update:  Because of medical malpractice caps in the state of Texas, the Alegria family received substantially less than the jury intended.  While the settlement is confidential, the case was resolved and the family received only a percentage of the verdict in this tragic bedsore case.
